The Fraxel re:pair laser has FDA clearances for the following conditions:
-Wrinkles
The Fraxel re:pair laser is believed to have lower risks and shorter recovery time than traditional CO2 lasers and surgical procedures. CO2 lasers were popular in the 1990’s, but have been used less in recent years because of the prolonged recovery periods and occasional loss of pigmentation in the patient’s skin after treatment. The Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser has been shown to have shorter recovery periods and is believed to have less risk of skin pigmentation loss.
These advantages are achieved through a new "fractional laser" technology; thousands of tiny holes, not visible to the naked eye, are lasered into the skin, leaving normal "skin islands" between the laser holes. These skin islands “speed up” the healing process by healing from the sides as well as the bottom. Traditional CO2 lasers heal only from the bottom.
The Fraxel re:pair treatment is an office based procedure performed with a topical numbing cream and oral medication to ease discomfort. For most people, only one treatment session is needed. Recovery time typically takes between seven (7) to ten (10) days.
